I like open spaces with views of mountains, the sea or city skylines; vistas that hint at endless adventure, possibility and freedom.

Consequently, I’m not enamoured of the suburbs with their views of fences, patios and manicured lawns – little pockets of assumed control.

But, occasionally, I’ll look above the fence and be captivated by an early morning light glinting gold and white through palms, by wisps of clouds outstretched in an embrace of this vista and all the day may offer.

In this moment, I could be anywhere in the world.

I remind myself, the sun also rises in suburbia.
