I call them god rays.

That may sound odd coming from an atheist but a childhood of religious indoctrination has firmly associated sunlight streaming through clouds with an omniscient being.

Despite my logical brain not digging the god-thing, I still experience a kind of transcendence when I see crepuscular rays.

Such a breath-taking sight makes me stop, be in the moment, and look with awe on the beauty and magnificence of our natural world.

But I also wonder if a little part of me is waiting for an old, white-haired, bearded dude in flowing robes to appear atop the clouds.
