I love discovering new tunes. While I have my preferred genres, I listen widely for songs that capture some unique essence or rhythm of life. I recently discovered Nu Disco – a genre of dance music where the tunes are re-edited from 70s and 80s disco. I’d always referred to this style as funky house so it’s made me question my “new music” criteria. Is anything really new? Are our preferences etched in our formative years and we merely seek variations? And, will I ever discover a truly new musical genre that excites me more than anything I’ve ever heard?
