I am greeted at the door by a box of wine.

My heart leaps.

Hooray! It’s finally here!

Sure, most people probably get excited by the sight of a cat, a dog or even a human when they arrive home but in the absence of anything with a pulse, I’ve found a box of wine a fine substitute.

It’s not the quaffing potential that excites me – well, only a little – it’s being able to find out if my lucky-dip approach to auction wine has paid off. Will I find a gem inside? Or 12 bottles of cooking wine?
