Mo’ Motown enters my world, this time bringing instant joy. I can’t listen to the Jackson 5’s first single, I Want You Back, and not feel good. I’m not sure if it’s the infectious rhythms or the image of their outrageous 70s multi-coloured jumpsuits from a 1971 tv-special. Either way it’s genuinely smile-inducing. And everytime I hear it I wonder how they get what is ostensibly a song about loss and regret to sound so darn happy. Or perhaps that’s just how I interpret it? Perhaps it’s actually about realising the joy you once had is possible to feel again?
