One smiley can change your life.

The road home is windy, downhill and speed limited to 50kph. Few people keep to the speed-limit and, as it’s a route favoured by hundreds of cyclists, accidents are common.

Earlier this year a sign appeared that flashed a smiley face if you were travelling under the speed limit.

I loved the happy flasher and looked forward to making it appear each time I passed.

Seeing the smiley made me smile.

The sign is now gone – moved onto another speedster hotspot – but I still smile, and check my speed, as I pass.
