In an ICU waiting room, I have a moment of silliness with my siblings. Life with elderly parents can be challenging. Sometimes it seems to be just a series of doctors’ appointments, hospital stays and care rosters – with the underlying thought of “Is this it? Is this the one that will take them away?” Of course, it’s also about appreciating that they are both still in my life; aware that they can be gone at any moment. It brings family together – cutting through all our “busy” lives and making us choose what’s most important. I’m thankful for all these moments.
