It’s breathtaking.

The white shrub cascades over the picket fence. The flowers cover the entire bush, rendering no other foliage visible.

On closer inspection, the small white petals are all askew – not limited by notions of symmetry or alignment. They have battled for their place in the sun – and all have won.

I marvel at the sheer exuberance of it, the audacity of taking up so much space with so much beauty.

And yet what drew me to it, what made me gasp, was the unexpectedness of finding this in a suburban street.

It is like snow in summer.
