It’s an American TV series that touches on race, sex, gender and class in telling its stories of women who have broken society’s rules. Not the kind of stuff that you’d think “Woo Hoo! Happy days!”, is it? And yet, I was looking forward to the new season of Orange is the New Black with a great deal of enthusiasm. Perhaps it’s just that I like stories of marginalised women; I feel I have more in common with them than those represented in yet-another family drama. Or perhaps it’s just its hilarious portrayal of lesbian sex. Either way, I’m happy.
