When I go to pay for the kebabs, the girl refuses my money. “There’s no charge,” she says. “No charge?” I say. “The boss says there is no charge for you.” I follow her gaze to the man sitting outside the shop, the boss, and he nods in confirmation. No charge. We finish eating and my lunch companion goes to pay. Again, “No charge”. “No charge?” Nod. We go out to the boss and thank him for his generosity. Was this generosity or clever marketing? I’ll never know but my free kebab made me happy. The kebab gods were smiling.
