I was having a shit of a day.

Out of the blue, a long-time friend, who lives in a far-away city, phoned.

“How are you going?” she asked.

I wasn’t going well but I said, “Okay”.

We spoke for over an hour – sharing the good, the bad and the ugly of our lives. We encouraged each other’s new endeavours, commiserated in the fails, laughed at our foibles and raved on shared passions.

I felt energised, connected, optimistic.

Life had suddenly become full of joy and possibility.

Some days, a telephone call from a friend can make such a difference.
